Character Analysis of Jantu from Mingfog Ho’s Short Story, “The Clay Marble”
Jantu was always the happy and cheerful one of the family; she always wanted to play or just make someone happy, “Let’s make a clay village,” Jantu said. Jantu was my favorite character because of her warmhearted attitude and courage to take on anything life throws at her. When her brother got hurt she grabbed whatever she could find to cover up the wound. She encouraged Dara to go into the crowd of the unknown. Dara was encouraged and reminded of what bravery was because of Jantu’s actions. Jantu starts out as a fun loving young girl. Most of her family was killed during the war that Is still going on. She plays a lot and is eager to help Dara around the camp. She always was helpful to everyone. She wants them to live next to her in the refugee camp. Jantu changes through out the story from being happy to sorrow. When her brother got hurt it had scared her from the war. “Her face was as pale as the white rice in the pots”. Also when she was moving from the bombs she began to felt sad, because all of her friends were gone just like that. This change is very important for her because she went from happy to sad in a matter of hours. She was so sad that what happened from the bombing to her dying.
I predict that in the future she will be in a better place. Where she is with all of her family that had died in the war. I have learned to always value life. Make every day feel ike your last. Leave everything in the past. And always remember the ones you loved.
